  7. Hayes V-series Smartmodem 9600 is a cost effective solution for high
  8. speed communications.  The modem provides advanced error-control and 
  9. data compression features that increase the speed and reliability of 
  10. telecommunications across dial-up lines.  Offering ten times the 
  11. speed of 2400 bps, V-series Smartmodem 9600 supports Express 96 
  12. (formerly known as Hayes fast turnaround "Ping Pong" protocol) to 
  13. provide data throughput of 20 - 25 Kbps (depending on the file) when 
  14. the PC port speed is set to 38.4 Kbps.

  16. V-series Smartmodem 9600 provides the advanced features of ULTRA 96, but 
  17. supports Express 96, a Hayes proprietary modulation that simulates 
  18. full-duplex 9600 bps operation, instead of CCITT V.32.  The modem provides 
  19. unique high performance features that are not found as a complete offering 
  20. in any other product.  These unique features include Hayes AutoSync, 
  21. Express 96, CCITT X.32 (Dial X.25) with Hayes AutoStream, MI/MIC, and 
  22. backward compatibility with MNP( 2-5, Hayes Adaptive Data Compression, and 
  23. LAPB to provide a migration path to CCITT V.42 and V.42bis.

  44. V-series LAPB - The original error-control protocol used in the V-series 
  45. Smartmodem 9600 was based on CCITT X.32 (Dial X.25) specifications.  All

  51. CCITT V.42bis - CCITT V.42bis international data compression standard 
  52. provides compression capabilities up to 4:1, enabling V-series Smartmodem

  56. implements ADC to provide compatibility with the installed base of

  59. support this compression.

  95. Hayes Standard AT Command Set - Full support for this industry standard 
  96. enables V-series Smartmodem 9600 to operate with the large installed 
  97. worldwide base of communications software.

  99. Hayes Escape Sequence with Guard Time - Allows the modem to reliably 
  100. escape from the on-line mode of operation (receiving/transmitting data) to 
  101. the command mode (interpreting the Hayes Standard AT Command Set) without 
  102. being accidentally triggered by transmitted data.  U.S. Patent 4,549,302 
  103. was granted to Hayes on October 22, 1985.

  105. Automatic Feature Negotiation -  V-series Smartmodem 9600 automatically 
  106. negotiates with other modems to analyze all features available 
  107. (modulation, error-control, data compression, etc.) to establish the most 
  108. efficient communications session.  This powerful capability is implemented
  109. transparently, making V-series Smartmodem 9600 exceptionally easy to use 
  110. even though its feature set offers a wide range of capabilities and 
  111. communications options.

  113. Automatic Speed Buffering - Allows V-series Smartmodem 9600 to provide a 
  114. fixed speed interface between the V-series product and its DTE (mainframe, 
  115. mini-computer, or PC).  This enables the V-series
  116. Smartmodem 9600 to communicate at varying speeds with other modems while 
  117. communicating at a fixed interface speed if required by its attached DTE.

  119. Flow Control - Works with systems equipped with flow control to manage 
  120. the interface between the modem and the system to control buffers and 
  121. preserve data integrity, preventing inadvertent data loss between the 
  122. modem and the system.

  125. instruct the modem to go off hook and establish a call.

  141. synchronous data transfer capability to your system in one communications 
  142. device.
